Under
the auspices of Tupelo Children's Mansion
Ministries, a new program for troubled girls
opened in October, 2004. Haven of Hope Girls'
Home is operating as an extension of the
residential department and provides a segmented
and more structured program to help teenage
girls with special needs. Stan Cook, Executive
Director of Tupelo Children's Mansion, Inc.,
oversees this new venture.
We feel that the Mansion is meeting a significant need by
opening Haven of Hope. The need for this program is apparently
greater than we first imagined. The word is spreading and
several calls of inquiry are being received daily in our
offices.
Haven of Hope Girls' Home is for girls ages 13 through 16,
with exceptions in special cases. This highly structured program
is especially geared for girls who have behavioral and emotional
issues. The rules are stricter than for the boys and girls in
our regular residential environment. Privilege levels encourage
behavior modification and acceptable conduct.
The basic program lasts for a period of 12 months; however,
girls can stay longer if deemed appropriate. Some will be
transitioned into the regular Mansion residential program,
others will return home to family and relatives, and a few might
possibly be available for adoption.
With the establishment of Haven of Hope Girls' Home, our
present residential program remains intact and the needs of our
regular children better served; however, we are able to have
much better success with these special-needs girls.
Many have already asked how they can help support Haven of
Hope. Of course, offerings designated for this cause are
appreciated and, in addition to our existing Special Kid
Sponsorship program, those wishing to specifically support the
girls' home can sign up as a "Guardian Angel" sponsor.
The girls at Haven of Hope attend Abundant Life Tabernacle
and are involved in selected activities of the church under a
high level of supervision. Tupelo Christian Academy, our
on-campus school, is providing the educational program as an
extension of the school within the home itself.
